Hi All

In the next week or so I'm hoping that I will receive a Q9550 that I've had on preorder for some time.
I'm now looking for a motherboard and ram. Will a X38 Asus Maximus Extreme, 2x1GB CorsairTwinX XMS3, DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600) and a copy of Windows Vista 64 bit OEM be a good choice?
I will be overclocking but its not a priority at the moment, that's why I chose the Q9550 over the Q9450.
All I want is a nice stable system to start with.

Cheers;)

Any particular reason for going for DDR3? As far as I know the parts are all compatible but unless you've got money to burn DDR3 doesn't seem to represent a good investment when you can get 4-8gb of DDR2 for less than half the price.

I've read in reviews that DDR3 is more stable when overclocking Intel Quads. I also thought that it was a good time to start getting used DDR3 as it's likly to be around for a year or two.

If it speed you want, then get DDR2 and put the cash towards a faster CPU. Overclocking is never gaurenteed, but the speed on the box is!

ddr2 is likely to be around for a year or 2 as well ;), i'd wait until the ddr3 prices are a bit more reasonable and go with ddr2 for the time being.
