Hi all.
Am trying to solve this issue of three beeps from mobo, which happens before POST, but not every boot. Started a few weeks ago. After this the PC boots normally, seems to be running ok.
Have played games for an hour or so. Everything seems in order.
Specs
MSI X570s Torpedo Max
Ryzen 9 5900x @ Stock - 3.7Ghz
Deepcool Air Cooler
RTX 3080Ti
32Gb Corsair LMX Vengeance 3000 Mhz ( 2x 16 )
Nvme 512gb Samsung 960 Pro ( OS )
NVme 2Tb Sabrent ( Game storage )
SSD 1Tb Samsung 850 Evo
2x Spinners - 1x 4Tb Toshiba + 1x 8TB Seagate
Windows Pro 11 64bit
PSU Asus ROG Strix 1000w
AMI BIOS A.80 26/10/2023

Have done a bit of troubleshooting and googling ! MSI's website says it is a RAM issue. I ran memtestx86 - passed.
Here is what else I have done.
Reseated GPU - Another GPU / Both PCIe slots / different cables / different ports
1 RAM stick at a time / using optimal DIMM slots
Updated BIOS from A.40
New PSU ( switched from a 9yr Old EVGA 1000w SuperNova G2 ) ( Thought maybe not enough juice to the GPU and the CPU Pwr headers )

Driving me potty it is, anyone have any advice.
Thanks for reading.

if its running fine
even though the beeps are annoying
i would just leave it

especially as its not every boot
anything we suggest
you wouldnt know for quite a while if any of it
was actually working
or if it just decided not to beep for a while

yeah thats understandable
especially if its intermittent could rma it
they test it
but it doesnt bleep

its a bit like the old days
when some asus motherboards would double post/go through
boot process twice
was annoying but they still worked fine
so yeah if no obvious crashes, blue screen unexpected behaviour etc
probably i would grin and bear it

Hello again
I have been doing some more troubleshooting and have some interesting news !!
I realised that I hadnt tried just a hdmi cable instead of the dp cable So I did !

It worked !! No bleeping.
But obviously I could only run at 75hz and no Gsync !

Then I tried the DP cable again in all 3 DP ports, bleeps back ! Boo Because I wanna run at at least 120hz

So no we are in a bit of a conundrum, my DP 1.4 cable was a cheap buy, so should I invest in a new cable, say over £30 ?
Or just leave it ?? or run it at 75hz with no gsync ?

Thanks for reading

If you don't notice the difference, then save your money :D

If you do notice the difference, I guess you'll want a new cable.

Nvidia have released several firmware updates for DP issues, by the way, probably not relevant to you, but just thought I should mention it. Example below.

If it's not broke don't fix it. Sounds like a bios setting to me. Maybe you have the longer check thing (lol) enabled.

i would definitely notice the difference between 75hz
and 120hz
for what its worth
cant link to ocuk competitor as ocuk sell cables
but i bought 2 x 3m displayport 1.4 cables
back in 2020
worked great still using them at 165hz x 1440p
£30 for 2 of them so dont really need to spend over £30 for 1
black and blue braided/sleeved if colour is relevant
to performance lol

Doesn't 120hz need HDMI 2.1? Or is that for vrr? My cables are old,and they run 120hz fine,so I dunno

confused me now
i said displayport not hdmi?
Some GPU 's can only output DP 1.4 and 2.0 I think...... The limitation is 60hz on those.
HDMI 2.1 introduced lots of new features if I recall. 120hz and VRR support as standard. Don't quote me on this but I might be right. Maybe someone sober can help you :p

the 3 beeps your getting from the pc, are they long or short beeps, and any combination (ie:1 long 2 short or something else)
and importantly do you have any game controllers plugged into usb ports when you go to power up the pc?

The beeps are 1 Long + 2 short.
I have tried with and without a game controller - same result.

I have read up that it is a video error, which is why I have tried just the hdmi cable + the DP

Have you checked the voltage in the bios for the ram?

Do you have XMP\EXPO enabled?

Could try setting the ram timings manually and voltage

What monitor do you have? Sorry if already mentioned, I skim read the post. :) Reason I'm replying is my bro has similar issue with his MSI monitor and depending on whether it is turned on or off before he powers on the PC. His will do some funny beeps depending on if it is on or off before he powers up. But everything works fine. Might be the same thing here.
