Ok so yesterday i had to take my PC with me back to uni, by train, so i put it in suitcase, didnt actually pull it along the road that much, but had to go up and down a few stairs so there were a few bumps. stupidly didnt take out the ram/cpu then put it back in when i got there

anyway

turned on PC last night, i hear 1 long beep, 2 short. aha somethings up with the memory....swap the stick around a bit, around the RAM slots, swap with another 2 sticks of spare ram i got, and hear no beeps, but now NOTHING happens, i.e. fans etc spin, and nothing happens

thought it might be cpu,but just put in my CPU in a friends setup, and it boots fine

could my mobo have been somehow damaged? the mobo light is on, all the fans have power.

any other ideas?

ps. when i take out the CPU same thing happens, so maybe its somehow stopped seeing any cpu?

Something may have come loose or got partially unseated. Take each card out and put it back in and reconnect all the power leads and see what happens. What size of heat sink is on your cpu ?

ok ill try taking out the gfx card and putting it back in - only thing i havnt tried yet :(

Ok an update if anyone is interested, or for any future people who have a similar problem:

Did some googling and found 1 long 2 short beeps is NOT ram, which is what my friend told me when i phoned him up asking what it is, but GRAPHICS. (So in future always check yourself !)

Anyway messed around with the GFX card a bit, took it out, put it back in, tried the other PCI-E slot, still nothing would show up on screen, would just hear a few continous beeps, which i would later find out is my PC telling me my Chipset Fan is not working (Chipset fan hasnt worked for at least a year now, had no probs, always forget to disable the chipset fan check when i clear CMOS etc)

ANYWAY as i was doing all this, something very bad happened....i flicked on the power 1 time...and i heard a sizzzzzzling sound, suddenly see smoke coming from my Hard Drive  and a burning smell ! HD got FRIED!!

so im thinking OK this is all to do with the PSU!! (My PSU is over 2 1/2 years old, had it since i built this PC, and has always had a bit dodgy rails, but never had problems with it). Not convinced its nothing to do with the GFX, went back to my friends, and borrowed his PSU, and his GFX card (He only has a PCI gfx tho as the PCI-E slot on his mobo doesnt work)

So tonight after night out got home, thought id try his GFX first, and it finally works ! BIOS shows up on screen. Install Windows on my other HD, and here i am

Now before splashing out on a new GFX card, gona wait for my mate to get his new mobo and try my GFX in there, as for all i know it might be the mobo slot on my mobo. Gona buy a new HD for Windows, as the 1 i installed windows on now is full of music and movies etc, cant risk something happening to this 1, also gona get a NEW PSU as the fact my HD got fried must have meant my PSU is dodgy, right?

thats all

:)
