Motherboard chipset fan replacement

Hello - a PC of mine has been making some odd noises the past few weeks, it almost sounds like a noisy / dying HDD (but there's only an SSD installed).

Anyways after taking the side panel off and listening to all the parts, I think I've narrowed it down to the motherboard chipset fan.

The model number of the fan is PLD05010B12H. They seem oddly expensive, even AliExpress wants £20 for one - which I'm a bit reluctant to pay as the motherboard only set me back £50, it's an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus.

SO - question is, anyone got any experience with this? I presume any fan of the same diameter and connection to the motherboard will do.

The machine is rarely under any load, wondering if I need a fan at all...

You don't even really need a fan with the same connector as you have a row of four Sys-Fan headers on the bottom edge of the board. I think the biggest problem you will have is finding a 45x10mm frameless fan. You could mount a 50mm fan across the top of the heatsink if looks are not important or just try it without a fan but keep a close watch on the chipset temp.

Thanks for the reply - looks are not important, the case has no window on it. Good idea though, I'll see if I can just attach a larger fan somewhere nearby to blow on to the heatsink. Time to raid the boxes in the attic, fairly sure I've got some 80mm fans kicking about.

I think I was mostly surprised at the cost of the replacement, thought they'd be under a fiver somehow.

Just mount a 60mm fan if possible, it'll be much much quieter.

Perhaps use motherboard mounting hole, with a riser with thread then mount it to that with a piece of plastic or 3D printer frame.
