I used to have an asus z97M plus for my build , sent it back because it was deffective. Now i have an asus h110m-k.

In terms of performance, what is the difference or is it more to do with the mobo layout?

Visually the difference i could spot was that my h110m-k has less pci-e slots. What more is there to it, was this a downgrade?

It's a downgrade if you have a unlocked k series cpu because you are now unable to overclock it. You are also restricted to a maximum of 2133mhz memory speed.

Hang on a minute. Those boards are for different sockets so you must have a new cpu as well? Z97 is for socket 1150 and H110 is for socket 1151. They are not compatible so what cpu and memory did you have and what do you have now?

New cpu is an i5 6600k skylake and memory is corsair vengance lpx 2400 mhz

In which case you now have a unlocked cpu that you cannot overclock and the specs for the board say a maximum of 2133mhz for memory so your memory probably isn't running at it's full speed either. You need a Z170/Z270 board for overclocking.

Wuss. :D:p:D Must be a thing for cutting thumbs in the past few days as I slit mine open on a sharp metal edge and the damn thing wouldn't stop bleeding.

I would have suggested going for a newer Z270 board but they are more expensive and to be honest the colour schemes are not as nice as the one you selected, not to mention that it would seem that everything has to be RGB these days!!

I need the ga-z170 because im building in a thermaltake core x2, dont realy care much for rgb myself although the option for a different colour scheme at will does seem appealing.
