DFI Ultra-D was less than £100 wasn't it? around £80 if i remember rightly

I never spent over £100 on a board until it came to core2duos and beyond, and even with my past two boards they've been a max of £120. Asus P7P55D and a Gigabyte P45 board prior to that, and an Asus P35 before that, i'm pretty sure each one has been slight more more expensive than the last, and now again the boards are more expensive, it's getting a bit silly how the prices are going up generation upon generation by like £10 a pop for the base models and even more for the extra features!

EDIT: ah the DFI Ultra-D was £106 inc VAT in Feb 2004 and wasnt on the ocuk site in december 2003, i can't remember when it was released to be at it's most expensive though?

Abit BH6: £64.63
Abit VH6: ~£65
Abit BD7-II: ~£100
DFI NF4 Ultra-D: £99.99
Asus P5N-E SLI: ~£69
MSI P55-GD65: £63

Most mobos I have bought cost around £65 save for a couple in the early-mid noughties. Aside from the Ultra-D I've never really had a genuine 'top' board though.

Indeed !!! I was thinking about an upgrade a few months back to i5 but the entire cost including a new mobo just put me off so much that i didn't bother.

i Used to pay about 2/3rds the price of the CPU on a mobo now its almost double the CPU cost.

Can't say I've ever seen any proof that adding all these power phases on motherboards actually helps the overclock any, plenty of people with the UD3R boards get pretty much identical overclocks to people with UD7 boards.

It's pretty much marketing and bragging rights.
