I am trying to fix a friends system. It is giving me the good old IRQL_not_less_than_or_equal_to error. I have so far

-Used different RAM
-Removed all PCI cards and disconnected additional CDROM and Floppy.
-System was using onboard VGA so tried a AGP card
-Disabled all on board devices in BIOS (On board USB/Sound/Ethernet)

I still get the above error. This error is always when I am trying to install windows, once I press enter to install and then agree the the terms, it trys to check the current version of windows and gives me the BSOD. Same goes for recovery console.

I think I have tried anything unless one of you guys as an idea?

The system is an old duron 1.3ghz, motherboard has a VIA chipset, 256mb of DDR PC2700.

Any help at all would be great.

Well I don't see any reason for it to be, and I don't think the IRQL problem happens much with borked cds. It loads all the setup files fine, its only whenever it checks 'existing windows installations'

i kept getting a "FATAL ERROR and STOP errors" recently on a machine I was fixing after the setup files had been installed......I tried a diff win xp cd and it worked....

what was a matter with it that you tried to fix it?

have you reset the CMOS then tried installing windows?

The systems was not turning on at all, well, no monitor. Tried an AGP card and it worked, then after I took it out again the on board started to work anyway. I guess I will have to try another disc, but it really doesn't seem to be a problem with the disc.
