Motherboard dead?

Hi. My computer has died. Whilst under fairly intense strain (burning a dvd, downloading onto 3 separate disks, playing music etc) it suddenly turned off. When I attempt to turn it back on, the fans try to move but dont get going and nothing else happens. The light on the motherboard is on though. I have tried another psu connected to the MB but the same thing occurs, leading me to think the MB has gone. Does anyone else think this is likely the case? And do you think the PSU has gone too, or will it be ok to attach to a new MB if one is needed?

Cheers!

I dont think it would be the psu, more likely to be one of the three fundermentals (mb, cpu, ram)

if i had to put money on the prob id say either mobo or cpu from heat

cheers. yea my thoughts are its likely the mb as the cpu fan wont get going (though it tries) and nothing else happens. annoying that i cant tell for sure though! would the processor dying stop everything else from starting up? hmm.

I had the same problem with my previous P4 rig; it shut itself off and refused to power on ever since, although power indicator is still on. You can see the fan spin for a brief moment when turning it back on. I spent a whole day cross testing all components and it turned out my P4P800E-Deluxe was dead. :(

Yea. im hoping thats it. unfortunately i think im just going to have to buy a new mb to try it! ah well! luckily it wont cost that much as its a 3ghz 478 northwood and cheap mbs are still kicking around. hopefully that will be problem solved, though even if the mb is dead, who knows what it may have chosen to take with it! ugh!
