Motherboard dead?

I posted this problem at the official nVidia website but didn't get a response:

Would appreciate it if someone here could help. Otherwise I guess I will have to RMA the mobo.

Merry Christmas to all btw! :D

TBH it doesn't sound like mainboard. As the computer works except for a poor image i'd gues it's going to be either the Graphics card, Monitor or connecting cable.

You've ruled out the Graphics card with the 7600 which I assume was corrupt in the BIOS and when windows was booting so I'd be looking at the monitor and or cable.

I use my HDTV as my PC screen. It works fine on all other connections. I tried the PC in the 2 other HDMI sockets but it was the same issue. All other equipment connected to the screen works fine. I guess it's possible that the cable is at fault, but I sincerely doubt it. I will try connecting my family PC's ancient CRT to it though with a VGA cable plus DVI adaptor.

I'll explain more about the graphical fault...

With the 8800GT connected, the screen is all "wobbly". It's like all the text has strong waves running through it.

With the 7600GT, it is more like traditional artifacting you would associate with a faulty graphics card. And the colours are all bright and weird. If possible I will take some photos and upload them here but I may not get the chance.

On both graphics cards, the issue occurs straight away - during POST and in the BIOS. Also happens when the OS is loaded.

Hmm... just switched it on and it's working perfectly atm.

Perhaps it just needed cooling down for a while?

Will not be convinced that the problem's actually gone away until the computer's been working fine for a week though. I've been around long enough to know that problems can return quickly.
