Could do with a bit of General Hardware assistance.
I recently bought a new motherboard, Asus Z97-K and a I5 4690k

I installed all this in my old case with XFX 550w PSU and DDR3 memory as my sig

On power up it fails to boot, the cpu fan, psu fan and chasis fans all spin up, motherboard light comes on but no bios or post beeps

i tried removing RAM sticks, GPU, hard drives, still nothing, remove the motherboard from the case, laid it on the anti-static bag with nothing connected but the power cables and nothing.

I remove the heatsink and fan from the CPU and thermal past is a little patchy, could this be the cause? or is the motherboard DOA

Different 650W PSU and still the same symptoms, all thats connected is the monitor, cpu, power connector to mobo, power controller.

The only thing i havent done is reseat the CMOS or change jumper settings.

thanks for the feedback wazza its an XFX-650-3XS which is only 3-4 years old.

could try that while your waiting

I think its best to rma the board for another and take things from there

Thanks for those that posted before but my problems persist.

OCUK replaced the motherboard which again I installed (very carefully) and still can't see a BIOS screen (same problem as before). I think I would be pretty unlucky to get two defective motherboards in a row.

As before it all powers up (CPU fan on, Motherboard light on, GPU fan and lighting on, PSU and Chassis fans on) but the monitor is not receiving a signal.

Monitor
I tried my old 19" Monitor with both DVI and VGA on the motherboard and on the GPU with no effect - So that eliminates the Monitor although I might try a DVI cable at work or my HDMI off my PS4.

CPU
Currently still under suspicion but there is no evidence to suggest its faulty it was carefully installed and I bought new thermal paste and re-applied it

RAM
This is the prime suspect. I have 4 sticks of 2GB Corsair XM3 DDR Memory (cmx4gx3m2a1600c9) Now these are not listed as compatible with the Asus Z97-K Motherboard according to the ASUS website. I really should have checked this but in theory it should be compatible (DDR3 / 1600MHz). I understand that motherboards won't POST if there is no memory present so this could well be the cause.

Further Confusion
In order to eliminate the monitor from my suspect list i connected up my old system out of the case both without and with RAM but without the original GPU. When i did this it also failed to boot to BIOS. I think I need to test this further although I would expect it to boot to BIOS without the GPU and HDD attached I might try plugging these back in to see if it will boot.

This is all very frustrating as I feel I have wasted two weekends trying to sort this out.

Has anyone experienced the above before with the wrong type of memory?

Possibly, Not sure how I can check which version i currently have but checking the manual you can't update it without getting into BIOS.

Resetting the CMOS is also something i could try.
