hi i used a screwdriver with magnetic tip to lift the screw out from the motherboard. it fell down when i was doing unscrewing something else but i touched the inside motherboard and some metal while doing it. i know it was careless but now when i try to boot up computer it doesn't switch on. the motherboard power light in red. i tried removing the battery and reseting the bios but this hasn't solved the problem. did i short circuit something? how can i make it work again.?any help is appreciated

Highly unlikely.. unless is received a strong static charge.. Static damage is normally long term. Have you checked to see if the motherboard is receiving power?

i use a magnetic screwdriver all the time to retrieve screws that fall onto mb or in the case, never had any problems

chances are the mb is shorting somewhere on the case or its something else,id test mb outside the case on wooden or cardboard surface to rule out any shorts

the power supply is working as should and all other components are installed correctly inside the case except one issue with the hard drive which has been reporting 1 (i think) UAC error but it was still usable in windows except that it hang quite often. i was trying to figure out why it was hanging so often because i though it must have been the new raid controller. i'm still clueless how to get pc back up again

Just a thought - check the connections to your power switch - might have just pulled the wire off the motherboard connector while you were working on it.

I take it you had the system turned off when you were working on it? If so, then unlikely to have damaged anything and it'll either be a standoff or something else shorting the board, or perhaps one of the add in cards - GPU, Sound card etc could have been dislodged a little bit.

Remove the battery for 15 minutes as a precaution (properly clears the CMOS) and whilst it's out, reseat the GPU, soundcard and any other add in cards. If that doesn't work, get the whole board out of the case and try it there. If that works, then it's shorting on something within the case.

i got it finally working now again. i had to remove the cheap raid controller that i bought from ebay. it turns out that was the problem. it was either incompatible hardware or faulty. thanks for all suggestions
