Motherboard faulty or CPU?

I have a ASUS Crosshair III with a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T OC

My problem is that after i stripped it down to re-cable everything to get a tidy system then fitted everything back in my computer will no longer post. On the LCD Poster it says "DET DRAM" so i stripped down everything again and put it all back together just in case i missed something, and still the same problem.

Reseated the CPU etc....

And still....

So i tried removeing all my RAM and placeing just 1 in on the DIMM slot 1 and everything worked, but once i removed it and placed it in DIMM slot 2 and slot 4 it doesn't post.

It post's perfect if there's RAM in slot 1 and slot 3 but not in slot 2 or 4....

Could this be a Motherboard at fault or the CPU becasue of the integrated memory controller? Memory seems to work fine.

I will say though, there is some little thermal paste on the CPU pins but I don't see how that can cause this problem. I have requested an RMA for the motherboard, but I'm also wondering if this could be the fault of the CPU as well maybe?

P.S Should i send both the CPU and Motherboard back for RMA just in case? Or can any of you experts know the problem that i could try?

Many thanks, and sorry for the really long post, If you need any more information, please ask. :)

i had that on a striker 2 extreme put out the ram and try with 1 stick. sometimes i had to try different slots would take lots of messing . sometimes it would work if i reset the bios as well. was a right pain never got to the bottom of what it was really. when you do get it working update the bios might sort it out

I did try clearing the CMOS "Still the same", Tried the MEM Ok button on the motherboard "Still the same, just says tuneing constantly.

Could this be the cause of ESD damage maybe? I did have minimal contact with the motherboard though by picking it up by the edges, and i will try again later with re applying the 1904 BIOS and hope that works.

But there is a option in the bios about Northbridge ESD which has a load of options about wipeing the memory or something like that which takes like 8 hours. Is that something to look at as well?

honestly i dont have a clue why it does it. i spent days messing all in all. i sometimes unpluged a gpu (had sli) and sometime i would go down stairs for a hour because it was burning my head trying to fix and come back it would start working first time. when you get it working try each stick at a time might have a bad stick.

i think all that touching components is in the past ive had ram die from it years and years ago but i touch them all the time now and they never break. even had water all over a 9800gtx+ twice and it still worked. only reason i new it had water leaking was because i could smell burning lol.

Np, if you don't know, you don't, but i do appreciate all the help but i'm just trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with this new setup im running on lol

And just to let you know as well, i tried all the memory sticks one by one in DIMM slot 1 and it posts fine, i also tried one of each in slot 1 and 3, but if there's any in slot 2 or 4, it just stays frozen on "DET DRAM" on the LCD Poster.

I'm at a lost if it's the CPU or the Motherboard really. I will try reapplying the BIOS later and hope for the best, if not, i will set the Northbridge ESD to it's maximum settings and leave it like that overnight for 8 hours. If that doesn't work, i will have to RMA the CPU and Motherboard :/

I'd remove the competitor name from post one.

I think it very unlikely to be the CPU. Don't some motherboards require populating slots in a set order?

andy.

Sorry about the competitor thing :P "Runs for the hills in tears" lol

And i'm running Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 @ 1333MHz 4x all the same exact model numbers.

Re reading all the posts, I think that it is the motherboard, and it cannot detect ram in slots 2 and 4, yes.

What voltage is on the RAM, I would suggest trying up to 1.65V in stages. Similarly with the northbridge voltage if you are running 4 sticks, give it a notch or two more volts.

Once i tried reapplying the BIOS update to see if that works, if not, i will try to increase the DRAM voltage to 1.8V becasue these HyperX Blu memory can go upto 1.9V without voiding warrenty. And will try upping the CPU/NB voltage a bit, if not. Then i guees it is the motherboard :/

Found out what was the northbridge configuration. ECC Protection? Even though i don't have ECC RAM, is it worth a try if i set it to Max?

Just re-applyed the 1904 BIOS and upped the DRAM voltage to 1.81V and still the same problem, i got in stick in slot 4 and it's stuck on DET DRAM on the LCD Poster. Motherboard bummed? or could this be the cpu? :S
