hi there.

i Recently decided to try and build my own computer, i put all my hardware in and to cut a long story short it won't switch on.

so i've gone back to the beginning. I know the motherboard works, or used to work because i only upgraded it back in march, i just decided to renew my case.psu, and graphics card. So anyway!, i took the motherboard out and connected my power supply to it, the 24 pin and 8 pin, i left the graphics card on and connected that up, but i can't seem to power it up. the motherboard i have is a Abit IP35 pro XE, there are two little buttons at the bottom, one says power, and the other says reset, but neither do anything, is there something i'm not doing?, any help would be great thanks

Just to clarify - the new components are case, psu and gfx card?

You've installed all the old and components into the new case and your computer wont post, nor is there any fan or light activity?

Firstly, as you're are new to this did you remember to sit the motherboard on the risers – the brass screws which sit between the case and the MB? If you did, have you made sure that they're all in the right place? (The computer could be shorting – it maybe, after further testing, that you have to remove the MB from the case to rule this out.)

Also check that the MB is secure and not moving about.

Re-check all your connections to the MB, CPU fan header, re-connect the main MB connectors etc...

Also, disconnect all non essential components (hdd, dvd, usb devices etc...) and only run with 1 stick of memory.

What spare components do you have to hand to test?

And could you list your entire spec?

A lot to be getting on with - see how you get on.

thanks very much for the reply :D

i've sorted it now thank you, there was a small switch on the motherboard, not sure what it does, but i flciked it, and i was able to power up my mobo, i've installed it all back into my computer, and everything is hunky dory;),
my cable management leaves a lot to be desired and could use some serious work though!
