Hey all,

I recently bought all my bits to build a PC for light use/light gaming, however I seem to have encountered an issue. Motherboard I've got is a mATX form Gigabyte GA-FM2A85XM-D3H (Trust me I've memorised that for googling :().

Everything went together fine was a bit of a tight fit in case, then I went for first boot and.. nothing, thought it might of been cus I tried it on HDMI first, so I tried it on VGA, still nothing. No Beeps nothing, nada, zip. Checked speaker connections etc (turned it around - all the obvious stuff). Tried unplugging everything and plugging it all back in etc.

After all else failed, I tried replacing CMOS battery, completing unmounting mobo (to check for shorts), still nothing, no beeps. What's interesting is, case fans are working, hdd is spinning up et cetera, but the CPU cooler is spinning then stopping then spinning then stopping - rinse and repeat. Tried different cooler, different RAM configurations, pretty much everything.

Guessing this all can be answered by a simple one word, just to be sure before I definitely return it. Is it b0rked?

Thanks,

Ben

I've tried taking CPU out and putting it back in, and using stock cooler which came with it :(. No beeps at all is surely a bad sign? I would have thought something like that would have beeped anyway to tell you it's not sitting right. Thanks for the reply :)

Sure

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-FM2A85XM-D3H
APU: AMD A10-5800k Black Edition
Memory: Crucial 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz Ballistix Tactical
PSU: 500W Corsair CX
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barrcuda
Cooler: Hypermaster TX3 / Also tried using stock

No GPU atm, using onboard, was planning to add that later on. If it works that is  Nice signature btw! Awesome film

see what revision it is look on the board just below the rear io panel, for white letters printed on the board

EDIT: tested using only one ram stick in any/all of the ram slots?

anychance you can try a different psu?

Tried RAM in one slot yeah, I think the PSU is fine but I don't have one to check against :( someone said about the RAM perhaps being incompatible, however it isn't even POST'ing, which to my knowledge it should at least even with incompatible RAM.

I don't think it will post if the rams not supported, did you try one stick in the other slots?

psu's can be incompatible also,as in they just wont work for some reason on certain boards

Yeah I tried the RAM in various configurations both with 1 stick and 2 sticks. Other interesting thing to note was, absolutely no lights on the motherboard.

does the board have lights though?

could be psu or board imo

boards getting power because the cpu fan twitches

That's kind of what also makes me feel even more that something is nackered on the board, the fan is powering up and down which to me would say perhaps a sensor or something is not working.. tried with another cooler too :(

it simply could not be getting enough power

be best to try and borrow a psu to try with if you can then if the same thing happens I would request an rma for the board
