Mate brought around his PC today as it was not coming on. So, tested the PSU with a proper PSU tester and was coming up as faulty. So, bought a new PSU. That was fine but PSU fan and CPU fan only spins for a 2nd or so before going off!

I think that the Mobo is kaput. Yes?

Ram seems ok as does DVDRW and Hard drive. PC switch seems fine as does connectors on mobo.

Onboard graphics.

New mobo time?

Sounds like it. What mobo is it? Does it have any lights that should come on as soon as you switch the psu on at the mains.

Sounds like it's defo the mobo. However I can't see why the psu was coming up as faulty. Unless it was faulty, and it's taken the rest of the system down with it. What was the original psu?

Found out last night that the PC was indeed coming on and then going off. Mate decided to stick his hoover in there to get rid of the dust! After he restarted the PC, nothing! Just the CPU fan and PSU fan coming on for a 2nd and then going off!

I put the PSU tester on and it was showing as faulty. Not sure the make.

Bought a new PSU and that showed as A1 condition on the PSU tester but still the CPU and PSU fan would only come on for a 2nd!

I think that either the PSU took out the mobo (Hope its just the mobo and not everything else) or the Mobo took out the PSU?

Anyway, i have ordered him a replacement motherboard and we will try that on friday. Hope it all works!!!

vacuums shouldn't really be used in a PC. Some vacuums cause static from the suction. Other times, you can accidentally knock a component from the mobo, and suck it up... you'd never know. If you need to clean out dust from inside a case, use a compressed air can or something, and take the pc outside to do it... just so you don't spray dust all over the place.
