Hi there, looking to put together a system using a G3258 CPU which we be used for emulation (actually building an arcade cab).

This dual core CPU seems to be very popular for this especially due to its bang per buck so ideally looking for other cost effective components. Won't be looking to over clock it to the max but some degree would be handy.

Any recommendations for a motherboard, memory, and PSU to power the lot?

Thanks.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Z97 PC Mate Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £64.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply £25.99
1 x Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler £14.99
1 x Raijintek Aidos Direct Contact CPU Cooler - Black £14.99
Total : £186.55 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Specced two colour varieties of the same cooler. One's out of stock. No need to go higher with the Pentium-K, doesn't need a great deal of cooling even highly overclocked.

Z97 mobo will ensure overclocking and no future BIOS borking through pressure on the motherboard makers by Intel or whatever. If you'd like cheaper, then wait for a B85/H81 mobo recommendation by someone who's actually succeeded in O/C that chip with it.

My guess is 4GB of RAM would be okay for arcade game emulation? Specced 8GB just in case. :p

Budget PSU which will do the job.

Thanks Danny looks like the sort of thing I'm after.

One other question do any of the Z97 motherboards offer intergrated graphics at the Intel HD3000 or HD4000 level? If so and assuming not a huge difference in cost I could probably make do with that until needed to add a dedciated GPU card (keeping costs down initially).

No, Z97 motherboards don't come with integrated graphics (other than the BIOS display). The graphics are integrated with the CPUs and the G3258 should be fine for arcade games. Shouldn't hurt to try, anyway.

Intel doesn't specify what level of HD graphics it is. I'm thinking they'll be HD 4000. As the i3-4130 and i3-4150 come with HD 4400.

Well I pulled the trigger on the following:-
  • MSI Z97 PC Mate Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
  • TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01)
  • Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
  • Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply
