Motherboard not finding any boot drive

Hello, been have a total nightmare with my system over the last couple months after a broken drive and then a total melt down where it wouldn't recognize my boot drive. I finally managed to reinstall windows to a new ssd. However I tried to re install my second drive and it wouldn't show up. Tried a couple of times using different sata cables and ports with nothing. Tried again today and all of a sudden my boot drive now won't show up using any port on my motherboard. I'm totally lost its the exact same fault I got previously with my older ssd. I'd assumed at the time it was a fault with the drive and windows though I'm starting to think it might be my motherboard. Boots to bios fine just won't find any drives. Hoping some one has an idea if it's fixable. Any help would be ideal
Cheers

does it show in bios?
It didnt show up in bios no. I continued to just try different ports and eventually it worked again. Using the same cables and ports I'd been trying. All I can think is there is something iffy about the ports. That's caused an intermittent fault.

Have you tested different power connectors from the PSU?
I tried using different power leads in different ports which didn't seem to make a difference but then I don't know if perhaps that's what worked in the end. I'm just going to not touch it for now and hope it doesn't happen again till I can afford to build a new pc.
