Motherboard on its way out?

Hey all,

My PC a few weeks ago started to freeze and crash on the very odd occasion, I put it down to the slight OC which I haven't tested to be stable as I didn't think such a small OC would warrant testing (was only 2.8GHz to 3.4GHz).

I had a Windows Update last week and since then, my PC has been crashing quite a lot so I put it down to something not updating correctly.
But then I started getting BSODs and restarting after coming out of sleep, and then yesterday it wouldn't even boot, so I think it was just a coincidence with the timing of the update.

Anyway, I tested booting with individual RAM sticks (I have 4x4GB) in the different slots and found out that if I put a stick into slot 1 or 3, it doesn't boot.
But also, one of the RAM sticks into any slot doesn't boot. So I have one faulty RAM stick and slots 1 & 3 don't work.

I'm wondering whether the motherboard caused my RAM to fail? (But only one RAM has failed) And could this happen with slots 2 & 4? Is it a sign that the motherboard is giving up or you think I'm ok for now?
I just don't want to have to take it apart/potentially have to reinstall the OS if I can help it.
