I have the popular Asrock board and an Antec Sonata II case which for whatever reason don't work together. Do I:

1. get a new PSU for say £50 and use the Asrock;

2. upgrade to a different mobo for say £100?
(I was looking at the Sapphire PURE RD580 CrossFire http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Sapphire_565.html)

I am leaning towards the latter since the Asrock should be easy enough to sell but I'd appreciate some suggestions before I part with my cash.

If it helps the rest of the set up is: 3800X2 cpu, X1800 gpu, 2gig corsair value, a few hdd's with a raptor for the OS & I may overclock later but we'll see.

Thanks for any help.

The asrocks aren't that bad a boards and from what I've seen can usually overclock well for the money. I'd be going for a new PSU.

100% certain? Maybe PSU in Sonata II can't handle your setup. I say this because I found you need something that can handle roughly 344W~464W (info here) :)

Therfore any of these PSUs should do:
  • Tagan TG480-U22 480W ATX2.01 2Force SLi Compliant Silent PSU (CA-004-TG) £54.95
  • FSP Sparkle AX500-A Blue Storm 500W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-005-SK) £49.95
  • Enermax Noisetaker 485W EG495AX-VE(G) SFMA ATX2.0 PSU (CA-007-EN) £49.95
hp7909 :cool:

Yeah seems the PSU in the Sonata II dont work with this mobo for some reason, I had to change mine with a 480w true blue from Antec, I would say replace the PSU, the true blue was on offer the other week so you missed out on that, but then you can sell the PSU from the case to reduce your losses :)

Apparently its only some revisions of the psu that don't work with the asrock board. I've raised a ticket with antec this morning - (after trying to get this combo to work) - to see if there is anything that can be done. I've heard of people having these work together first time no problem and others who've been able to get antec to swap their current psu for one that worked with this board!

Replace the PSU, I love my Asrock (Apart from having to bodge a ThermalTake backplate on there... but now I have Big Typhoon goodness on it...).

Never thought I'd say that about an Asrock before I bought this!
