Hey guys i'm just wondering if anyone can help me with the MAXIMUM hardware upgrades for the motherboard below namely Ram and Gfx Card.

MSI H81M-P33 (MS-7817) (SOCKET 0)

Thanks!

Officially up to 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz (although as it only has 2x DIMM slots you would need 2x8GB modules)
Graphics card - Anything as it has a standard PCI-E 2.0 x16 Slot
CPU - i7-4790K (4 Core/8 Thread, 4.0Ghz)

Whether any upgrades are worth it, depend on what you plan to do with it?
What CPU/RAM/Gfx card do you currently have?

much appreciated - Not very technology gifted :)

Had for a few years just never touched it; i currently have the following

8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series (XFX Pine Group)
Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz

So, it is in need of a few upgrades. Just don't want to spend to much

As above, if you aren't already using an SSD then that would be a great upgrade.

Upgrading from 8GB ram to 16GB isn't really worth it unless you have a specific need (as 8GB sticks are disproportionately more expensive, and DDR3 can't be carried forward to a new build)

Upgrading the processor probably isn't worth it - the i7's that fit this socket again cost a premium (£100+) which would be better spend on a newer motherboard and CPU.

Upgrading the Graphics card (GPU) will make a big difference though for gaming - although to save money you would be better looking 2nd hand.
A used Radeon RX480, RX570 or RX580, can often be had for around £70-£80, or Nvidia Geforce 970/980/1060 can be had for £70-£130, but prices on Nvidia cards may drop further as a new generation has just been released and people upgrade.

How about you tell us what’s lacking performance rather than random and potentially expensive upgrade strategies being put forward with zero idea about if they will help at all for your usage case?
