motherboard problem

I decided to build a new computer so i orderd all the bits from overclockers.
I orderd a B grade Asus P5N-T Deluxe,
but I recived a B grade Striker 2 Formula.
(must have been out of stock or somthin)

The motherboard has no on-board gfx, so I though I could use the gfx card out of my old pc to test it an install windows ect.
The card is a ATI HD2400Pro sonic,

I turned the computer on, the lights on the mobo are on, the fans + heatsink work and hardrives sound like they are working but alls i get on my screen is a NO SIGNAL sign.

Anyone know if the card is compatable? Ive tried different monitors with no luck. I dont know if its a compatability issue or a issue with the B grade mobo or possibly somthing else? But am gna try an get an nvidia sli card soon.

Any help would be much appriciate, as ive only got 14 days warranty on the mobo, the rest of my setup is in my sig if thats any help

The gpu should be compatible, Couple of things to try: Make sure all power connectors are installed tightly including the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power.
Reset the CMOS see if that helps and also remove the memory and try individualy and see if you can get the board to boot.

Sounds like No power to the GFX card, Check the plugs & remove the card & blow any dust out of the slot, Make sure it clicks back in properly when you replace it.

Thanks for the advice guys,
I removed all power cables an re-inserted them, they seem to be in nice an tight, an all the lights on the mobo are on.
Re-inserted the gfx card, seems as tight as its getting an back plate screwed on so it doesnt move.
I reset cmos, an tried single 2gb stick of ram in each slot, with no joy.
The fan on the gfx card is working so im assuming it is getting power.
I have tried the gfx in different slots but I am right in thinking it should be in the middle (white) slot shouldnt it?

Should this card work even though i havnt installed the drivers?
Anyone got any other ideas for me to try?

Cheers guys

Hi, just to confirm you have installed the 8 pin psu for the cpu power.

Looks like the card can go in any port, the drivers want load until windows start.

Is it possible to double check the card in another pc to ensure it does work.

If the card works in another machine then I would say a faulty motherboard :(

Edit: your sig is to big, max 4 lines.

Yes 8 pin power supply is connected, an the gfx card is workin fine in my other pc, so it could be a mobo issue.

Could there be any other cause for the monitor not getting a signal?
faulty ram or cpu or somthing like that maybe?
but i would have thought even with faulty ram or somthin i should still get some sort of info on the screen shouldnt I? even if its only error messages an that.

Proberly is down to the board but I would have thought that with it being a B grade overclockers would test it before re-selling wouldnt they?

thanks for your help

It is looking like a problem motherboard.
Is there a possibility of testing the ram in another pc or try to boot with no ram in and see if any error messages appear.

If that still fails then it may worth give ocuk a call monday.

Ive took all the ram out, but still no joy.
my mates got a similar spec pc but with different ram an a nvidia card, so il have to see if he will let me test his ram an gpu because my other pc only supports upto 667 so I carnt test it in that.
But it proberly is the board because i know the gfx card does work and the rams brand new, everything else is brand new other than the board.

thanks for all your help anyway mate

Hi I have had very similar problems to you in the past.

Did you receive all the acessories?
if so Plug in the LCD poster and let us know the message you get

1.Remove the Cmos Battery and use Manual instructions to Clear the Cmos!

2.All I can say is check the CPU socket and make sure no pins are bent and Cpu is aligned properly.

3.Check that you Pluged in your PSU Mobo connectors correctly into the motherboard.

4.Goto Asus Support Website also they have all the problems listed there
http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx?board_id=1&model=Striker II Extreme&SLanguage=en-us

If still no signal on Monitor, then Unfortunately

Send it back to OCUK! and explain to them.

good luck
