Ok, so here is where all of my troubles start .............. sorry this is a long post !!
I decided to change my socket A Barton 2500 to a 3200 but then after numerous amount of blue screens I realised that even though the 2gb of ddr I have says it will do 400mhz, as it was super generic I believe that it just wasn’t up to the job, so then I then decided to add another 1gb of memory in which was only capable of running at 333 mhz, I underclocked my new 3200 processor back to 2500 spec and all was well with the world.
Then another thing occurred where the pc would just switch off, like someone pulling the plug, the power led would stay on but the pc itself was off, you couldn’t even turn the machine back on again unless you pulled the kettle lead out from the back and then plugged it back in again, then it would turn on. And last for either a few hours or minutes and then repeat the same issue. I Put up with it for ages and then the tagan 350 eventually gave up the ghost, I put another psu in (a generic one) same issue, tried a different psu (generic) still the same problem.
A friend said to me that one of the capacitors on the motherboard (an asus a7n8x-e or something) might be dodgy, so ive just ordered an nf7v2-s to replace it (as 1.83ghz and 3gb of ram does me fine + I use the dolby digital live decoding so i’m not going for a new set just yet)
Although after running a diagnostic program I have now realised that the +12 is at 13.5 ????? and its flashing up “out of threshold” also me processor was running at 65 degrees, and i’ve had this thermalalright heatsink on here for 4 years and i replaced the compound like a month ago.
Now you know my sinario, is the +12V on the psu or the motherboard ? and what on earth is causing this issue, I would have assumed my m/b was on the way out because of the +12V being so way out ???
Help, lol have I ordered a new motherboard for no reason and should I also bite the bullet and spend however much on a decent psu instead of this generic 300watt one i’ve got in here now ??
Once again sorry for the long post, i'm suprised the pc has stayed on long enough for me to type this
