Just got a ASUS GT51CH with a i7700k and a 1070 needs upgrading anyone know the best ram speed for this machine going to upgrade to 32gb only has one stick of 16 2400mhz
Thank you in advance.

Do you know what chipset the board has and the maximum you can set manually in the BIOS? If you can manually set above 2666, is the DRAM voltage adjustable?

2400 is the maximum stock speed for a 7700K and with OEM systems, that is often the max you're allowed. If you keep the existing stick, you'd be limited to 2400 anyway.

7th gen systems don't officially support 16Gbit memory, which could make it tricky to avoid high density memory. What stick do you have now, I assume it is dual rank?

There is no overclock in bios for some reason updated to the latest bios too board is a Z270 for the GT51CH just the one stick of 16gb 2400mhz

Sadly it appears that the motherboard has been crippled by Asus from looking at reviews. No overclocking unless done by software and memory seems to be limited to 2400mhz (I have seen someone running a 2800mhz kit but they didn't state what speed it was running at) which is a shame because from Intels 7000 series cpu's just going from 2400mhz to 3200mhz memory speed unleashes big performance gains, up to 20% depending on the game. About the only thing you can do is add another identical stick.

Going to get 2666mhz and try that only have cheap ram it came with also seen others with 3200mhz just waiting on the ASUS forums to come up sorry to say another forum but someone else has had the same problem as me hope i can sort it the ram is plug and play Kingston beast .

It’s locked XML comes up in ageis 3 when the new ram is in but all I get is black screen so no higher then 2400mhz just a shame tbh glad the 3200 I got for Christmas just means I have 48gb ddr4 2400 will use the 3200 when I change the mobo and cpu.
