Motherboard refuses to post, CPU dead?

Just completed a new 4770k build (see below) in a fractal design define mini case. Unfortunately, when I switch on,
Motherboard refuses to post & graphics/system fans fail to spin.
Checked cpu alignment & refitted using intel heatsink to ensure it wasn't an issue with third party zalman. Am convinced it's cpu
as psu & motherboard both switch on/light up. Is this likely? Any help would be appreciated. If I can avoid sending anything back, that would be great. Thanks guys!

PS Have thoroughly checked hardware FAQ on forum & there was nothing on there I hadn't already checked. Standoffs are all aligned on mb, all connections are as motherboard guide specifies etc so I really am at a loss. Hope someone out there is able to shed some light. :)

Have you tried with only 1 stick of RAM?

If you've fitted a backplate at all for the CPU cooler make sure its not shorting anything on the underside of the motherboard.

Hi.

Do you have both the 24pin and 8pin ATX power cables attached?

Are you sure you have the case front panel cables the right way a round?

Try clearing the CMOS.

Try the MEMok button.

Use the basic parts needed which is CPU+Heatsink, board and a single stick of RAM, connect the monitor to the board directly.

Thanks guys. Will try all and get back to you. Was a little worried about backplate of zalman as it did appear to encroach on mb a little too much. Will keep you informed.

Are you using the quick connect plug for the front cables?

If you are, try connecting the cables directly to the mobo.

Have you tried using the start button on the mobo, may be a faulty case power button.

Do you have any mechanical drives in your system? do these start up?

Have you tried the power button on the motherboard to start the system.

So guys, had some bread boarding fun today with my new 4770K build. Checked memory sticks, front panel headers, took everything out of the case and went back to basics. Nothing seemed to work. Then, after a while of ummhing and ahhhing I decided one piece of new hardware I hadn't looked at was the monitor. It was reset up at my parents house, connected to their old dual core e5200 system with 4gb ddr2 and onboard graphics. As it was loading up, and to my amazement I experienced another black screen, exclaiming it could not connect to hdmi/vga or any other output for that matter, just as it had done at my flat. So, after all that perspiration and effort, it comes down to what is considered the most reliable piece of kit in the system: the humble monitor. Anyway, thanks guys, you've come up with some great ideas for testing this new rig, but I think that FAQ needs updating LOL.. I'll update when it's finished ;)

Daft question, have you got the 8 pin CPU power connected?

It should connected top left on the motherboard,

Yeah, all connections were fine, it was the monitor (A Samsung S24C550VL) refusing to register my system. Needless to say, it's heading straight back to where it came from tomorrow..

So why the misinformation in red.

So why the misinformation in red.

Still no system startup, even with all the power cables connected ;) Just realised monitor was my main issue, not the CPU. Will be exchanging motherboard, cpu & monitor for direct replacements by weeks end. (I'm taking no chances) Hopefully that clears things up a little.

Indeed,

This suggests there's no power connected to it. The fan in that photo is clearly spinning. Plus missing the extra power connector.

Did you change the input on the monitor to HDMI?
Tried another HDMI cable?

Why are you sending the other things back?
