motherboard sata raid question

im looking into a nas build. i will using the onboard sata. with intel it seems you have 2x 3g and 4x6g separate onboard chips where as amd you tend to get 6 x 6g

my question is can software raid work across both controllers on intel? same discs but different controller and drivers of course

iam planning a freenas ZFS build and would like the power & power saving of the ivybridge chipset but if amd works better using the single onboard sata then i will choose llano or trinity
