Motherboard says one thing core temp another

Core Temp probably.

BIOS will be reading temperature before any power saving features are initialised.

At idle Core Temp will be reading the temperature with the processor ticking over at 1.6GHz.

If you have, say, a 2600K it will be ticking over at 3.4GHz in the BIOS.

MSI P67A-GD65 in bios im being told the CPU temp is 40c, core temp is telling me 27c.

so, who is telling the truth?

i would worry about the temps at idle as the uncertainty in the sensors is large

as you start to heat up the cpu the uncretainties decrease and the difference will not be as large - the numbers will converge :)

coretemp seems more reliable for me and my gd65 does exactly what yours does and report the temp into the 40's , classically abit were the kings of this though lol. Do what I do and ignore temps in bioses. Coretemp is solid temeprature wise as is realtemp.
