Motherboard Swap & OS Installation

I am sure that I have done this years ago but I am thinking of buying another X399 board to replace the one I have. Now if I get an identical one it should be a straight swap but if I get a different make can I still just swap it or do I have to do a complete re-install of windows? I would imagine that the chipsets and drivers would be the same?

Windows is generally pretty resilient even if you change from AMD to Intel, but I'd suggest you create backups of everything important and uninstall any motherboard specific utilities or other monitoring, overclocking or RGB software.

I swapped from a B450 board to a B650 board and windows was fine, didnt even need to reactivate
