So if I was to swap a old Asus Rampage V Extreme motherboard over

so take out the old mobo and replace it with the SAME exact motherboard, can I do a simple swap over?

So no drivers/no windows installation, just a straight swap, thinking its got the same bios ect so it will work?

Or will it not work and I have to re-install windows all over again??

Should work fine as its the same chipset. I've done this in the past with several Asus 939 nforce 4 boards.

well i spent many many hours fixing up my pc, especially the software side of it so, doing it all over again will be nightmare, hence the swap over on a new board, otherwise it would have gone back to gigabyte is msi...

Board is the exact same model as the op had. Its a different matter when switching chipsets, like in my case going from a z87 setup with windows 10 to an X99 system. I had to do a fresh install of windows 7 due to conflicts when trying to run 10 on the new setup.

Different chipsets you will either have to repair windows, delete the drivers in device manager or reinstall windows.

I also recently did an nForce 4 chipset switch from Gigabyte to DFI. Worked without installing any new drivers.

well im gonna do the swap over, and will provide feedback if its successful or not, i think i will encounter some driver/chipset issues, and the windows activation issues too!

Cheers matey

Guys just to let you know I did a very simple mobo swap, exact same motherboard chipset ect, was a Asus Rampage Extreme V, well very quick and easy, i just dissconnected everything, unscrew the mobo out, replace and re-connect.

When I restarted Windows 10 it stated new CPU detected, not right so restarted, went in to infinity windows repair loop, was peed off that Id have to re-install windows, but went into bios, forced boot from drive with windows, selected windows repair, now completed and all good now, re-booted straight into windows 10 as it was before the swap over but

I had no internet so I had to re-configure my wifi ect, sound is ok so im gonna play WARGAME to see if i need to re-install the graphic drivers, so far all good.....
