Hey guys, just cleaning out my gf's pc (goddamn its dusty) and fitting her a new psu/cpu cooler, but i was just looking in and saw she is still running it with the old Elite Systems K7S5A w/ the Athlon XP 1600, if i was to pop in an nforce2 board i have laying around (Old compaq presario S3190UK not sure of tboard make, can't seem to see one) works fine etc.. but wasn't sure if i could get away with a board swap & maybe cpu swap to a 2800 without having to bother reformatting?

Your thoughts? Granted the performance is enough for what she uses just thought it would save using all the old pci network cards/soundcards etc.. again :)

Thanks!

Windows might ask you to reregister, however i think if you have to ring them and explain why im not sure they would authorise it as its a new cpu

Just to check though, windows registration aside, would there be any driver/performance related issues if i were to swap the boards around? I mean i know i'll need to install nforce drivers, but aside from that would there be any issues, cause i know in the past switching mobos without formatting was a bit of a no no?

Thanks

Yes there probably would be, to increase ** chances i would recommend unistalling all drivers and using windows drivers

Ok, thanks mate, think i'll keep the 1600 in there for now anyways, runs nice & cool so less fans needed to less noise = happy gf = hero me = :D
