I'm about to upgrade to vista 64 bit oem, and as it is tied to a motherboard I thought I would upgrade my mobo to something that would last me awhile longer, but also support my current setup. I currently have a gigabyte ga_965p_ds3 + 4gb ddr2 ram and am thinking of getting the Asus P5KC as it can handle ddr3 ram which will be handy when ddr3 becomes more common.

Basicly my question is, is it worth the upgrade to gain ddr3 support and a few extra features such as crossfire? And is this mobo known to work with geil ram and 64bit vista?

Thanks for any advice.

You could upgrade the board to get DDR3 capability but DDR3 isn't likely to give you much over current DDR2 improvements in the next year or so.

After which we'll be onto PCI express 2 and DDR4 with SATA 3 mega squash fandangily stuff

While DDRs is cheap you can always get another couple of GB for your current board and then when you come to upgrade later on you can either sell Vista with it and buy another OEM version or Just ring up and say your motherboard melted and you need to change it.
