Motherboard upgrade: what should be on my 'to do' list?

Hi,

I should be receiving my new motherboard, cpu and ram tomorrow... so I've got a nice big upgrade to do :)

I'm wondering what I can pre-prepare for the event, as at some point I'm going to be losing internet access when my system is in pieces... so I'd like to be ready for potential stumbling blocks!

My current system is:

Asrock Dual-SATA2
Athlon64 3700+
Zalman 9500 cooler
2gb DDR1 ram
1 x 160gb Seagate SATA HD
1 x 120gb Western Digital IDE HD
Samsung DVD / CD Writer
ATI X1950Pro 256mb PCI-E
Audigy 2
Win XP Home OEM, legit

My new components are:

Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
2gb Geil 800 DDR2
Intel E2180

So...

1) I'll print out the manual (and even read it!) before I start

2) WinXP will probably want re-activation. I've done this twice before over the phone so should be ok - I'll say it's cos of a blown motherboard if I have to talk to a human

3) I will uninstall the AMD Processor driver in Safe mode immediately prior to the upgrade

4) I've already downloaded the latest drivers and bios from the Giga website

I'm not sure what else I should prepare?
I can't see any other mobo-related drivers in the Add Or Remove Programs list, though I'm sure there's something (LAN driver?) ... I hope they won't cause any contention!

Do I need to worry about the SATA drivers at all, as my WinXP is installed on the SATA disk...?

Is there any thing else I can (or should) do?

Is your swapping that much hardware, you're probably better off doing a clean install of windows tbh.

Yeah, you're right, but it's a pain re-installing all my games and apps, and I'm bound to forget something important! I'll do a re-install if I have problems, or performance issues, but I'd rather not have to do it unless it's *really* necessary.

You can uninstall the current motherboard drivers in Device Manager in Safe Mode before shutting down for the final time.

But yeah a clean install would be encouraged.

Swapping out the motherboard you'll likely have to do at least a repair install of the OS....if not a complete format because of the HAL written originally.

Nope, no SATA drivers are needed for the P35 Gigabytes. Use the orange SATA connectors.
