So I took a chance and bought an untested Asus Maximus Impact VI from ebay, the seller didnt mention anything about missing pins only that its untested/not working for parts. Apparently its a customer return. Im not sure what all of these pins are for yet (will read the manual and see a few vids) but here are the photos marked by blue squares where they are missing. The cpu socket seems fine. Question is, are every single pins needed for it to work? I take it this wont be covered by Asus warranty?

The pins are missing for a reason.

Image #1
1. Is the USB 3 header and that pin is supposed to be missing.
2. Is the front panel header - its fine

Image #2
1. Is the TPM socket for using Bitlocker. If you're not using it it doesn't matter
2. Is the USB header and that pin is supposed to be missing.
3. Not sure but it looks like it could be an audio header

Either way, they're supposed to be missing. The best bet would be to build the system and see how it goes :)

Looks Normal, Not all headers need all the Pins,

The Red USB3 header in the top pic defo has that pin missing, Heres one i ripped off google, showing the header and the pin layout.

The other small one in the top pic looks like a USB2 header for the front panel. Which is normal not to have that pin.

The other ones, the long top one is a TPM header, its normal to miss that pin. Also the smaller one is a USB2/Firewire header and the last long one i'm not 100% on what it is, i think its HD audio. But i would be surprised if you used any of the 3 in the bottom pic.

They are usually missing so you can only plug things in one way round. On the corresponding cable block there is usually a solid "pin" so it can only be put in the right way round so nothing blows.

As long as you don't build it on carpet, and you earth yourself beforehand, you shouldn't have a problem. I've personally never killed a component myself.

Could pick up an antistatic wrist band for a few £'s.

Most will just say don't build on carpet and earth yourself before building.
