Motherboards and LAN cards

I need advice on the best hardware to use to connect to the internet, I don't really have any experiece in this area as I usually use laptops which have a built-in wireless connection.
I can't use ethernet cables as i'm far from the router.

What else do you have connected to the PCI slots in the Motherboard? If you have spare slot then you can buy a wireless card to fit in there.

Personally, I found the 300mb model in Idleman's post a lot more reliable and faster than PCI/PCI-E variants.

How much are you willing to spend OP? Powerlines are a good idea if you can afford it.

I probably don't want to spend more thaan £25, i'll probably go with the 300mbps one if you guys think it's good enough for online gaming.
