After 6 years of using a nice old Dell 19" CRT monitor, it started to become blurry and fuzzy for varying in lengths of time each time it was turned on, so I put this down to age and thought about buying a new monitor.
So, as I'm browsing through the list of monitors on OCUK I narrow it down to the following two LCD monitors:
Belinea 102035W 20.1"
and the
Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP 20" Widescreen
After discussing with a friend of mine which would be the better one to get, he claimed it would be the Dell one due to all the extra inputs, so I went with his advice and brought the 2007WFP.
After waiting in all day for city link to deliver, I set off to work at around 5:15 after leaving a note on the door reading:
"City Link man, please deliver next door <-----" with an arrow pointing in the direction. After a couple of hours of hard work at work shifting a delivery, I came home, went next door and picked up my monitor.
After deboxing the monitor and reading the quick start poster thing, I set about setting it up. I plug in the DVI cable, plug in USB and then go to plug in the power cable and find I don't have one. So, that wasn't much of a problem as I'd use my old monitors power cable.
So I took my old Dell one off my desk, put the new Dell on in its place. After this the logical thing to do is to plug in the cables, so I did, then I turned on my computer, which for some reason took hours to load up, and seemed to be stuck on the whole Windows XP loading screen. I reset in hopes it was just a crazy thing. This time it starts up normally and when I get into windows I change the resolution to 1680x1050. I change my wallpaper to a widescreen version, and begin to explore the wonders of the new monitor.
For a few minutes everything seemed fine, but when moving windows around I couldn't quite see what the text was whilst I was moving the window, which I thought was odd. So I went to test a really "cool" game called Counter Strike: Source.
Whilst sitting still in the game everything is as clear and as sharp as a razor blade, but when turning around, I notice everything goes blurry, then when I stop everything is sharp again. After a while of playing I kind of got used to it, but it's still quite annoying being blurry.
After this little test, I decided to try the VGA a go. So I shut down computer, plugged in VGA and disconnected DVI, started up but it was exactly the same. I tried using the auto adjust option in the options but that didn't help.
After talking to my good friend again, trying to describe the problem, I couldn't quite figure it out. In the end I said it kinda looked like the gmod motion blur on minimal - which it does kind of.
So I was wondering if this is normal on LCD monitors, or is there some sort of hidden setting I must enable? Maybe even a little something odd that needs to be done.
I tried to make a video of it using phone and a normal camera, but both came out with very small and dodgy videos that were unclear anyway.
