Santa has said I can have a new phone for Xmas and I've been reading quite a bit here and there about the Moto G, singing it's praises. So I thought that will do me nicely.

However in the flesh they are pretty blinkin big. I'm coming up from a HTC Wildfire S, which is pretty small and will go into just about any pocket un-noticed.

Is there anything out there that comes close to the Moto G, spec and price point that's a wee bit smaller??

Only alternative I've seen is the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, but they are nigh on £200

Mint used Nexus 5?

£200 will get you a 32gb mint condition one

Edit. Didn't see your wee bit smaller part lol sorry

first question - which moto g... the 2014 (and 4g version) or the 2015, the later being a bit bigger in size.

If you want small and 'good' performance I'd probably say grab a nokia 530 as well, hell I'm tempted to grab one to play with win mo at the current price even though I have a moto g 2014 (not big in my opinion) lol

Moto G, (2015) is the one id be going for. Does look a very good buy, and generally they are all getting bigger year on year. Spose I'd get used to the size difference. Plus Amazon, have em for £119 at the mo.

Seeing as you were worried over size...the 2014 and the 2015 are pretty much identical performance wise so you could look for a 2014 4g model, that's only £125 on amazon from a quick look, it's just the screen size, sd card slot (4g also has this) and front speakers really.

Don't forget you could look for a 'payg' one and unlock it, it's only a couple of quid to unlock them (assuming 2015 is as easy as 2014), I did it with my tesco one, and then changed the rom to the 'retail' version. All really easy to do too.

Tesco also have clubcard boost on till sunday iirc so it could work out cheaper still if you have vouchers :)

You mean the Moto G 2013 and 2014 edition, there's no 2015 one yet :p.

Both the 2013 and 2014 have the same specs (same SoC, memory, battery, etc), only difference is the screen size, camera, microSD support and 4G.

2013: No microSD or 4G, 5MP camera, 4.5"
2013 4G: MicroSD + 4G support, 5MP camera, 4.5"
2014: MicroSD, no 4G support, 8MP camera, 5"

Personally if you want something compact then go for one of the 2013 editions, they are pretty compact.

Guys I want to get my wife a new sim free phone as a little surprise for chrimbo. She likes compact phones but also likes taking pics and vids of the kids. I doubt she'd ever need 4G.

Is the larger 5" version the one to go for, even though she prefers compact phones?

Cheers for that, I was going to ask how the various models and specs differ. Think I'll hit the shops today and see if I can view the 13/14 models side by side. Spec wise they both look more than enough for my needs

Yes. The 5" has a better camera.
