Hi all

I understand the Moto G is a low end phone, but it has the same 1GB of RAM as the iPhone 5S. However, unlike the iPhone, the Moto G is forever reloading apps and open web-pages when I switch backwards and forwards. Is this just because Android isn't very good at managing RAM?

Best wishes

Android deals with RAM differently from iOS. iOS is also a lot lighter compared to Android so it uses less memory.

I could be wrong but I think Chrome is heavier on Android compared to it's iOS version due to more features.

Jsut to check, are you testing this on the same wifi connection? Perhaps try other altenative borwsers? Lightning browser for Android is very light compared to Chrome and might function better.

Does that allow syncing of bookmarks with my desktop Firefox or chrome?

you could try a browser that allows caching to sd partition (i think dolphin has this ability)

i don't really get much re-loading on my rom/kernel combo as i've tweaked it to buggery, so have no issue swapping between apps/tabs in firefox.

Nope, from the top of my head these browsers can though: Dolphin, Firefox (Firefox only), UC (Chrome only), Next (Chrome only) and Boat (Firefox only, pro key needed).

I'm using Dolphin Beta at the moment and that seems to be working well (although I only usually go to 3 tabs max). There's an adblock add-on as well which makes it pretty handy.

I think Chrome on iOS is not Chrome, Apple don't allow custom browsers, so it is just Safari in disguise.

I remember reading that Safari itself is still faster as it has more privileged access to the phone.

I recently switched to javelin on my Moto G as chrome kept freezing or not loading tabs at all. Haven't had any issues like that since I switched to javelin, only complaint is it seems to close old tabs when it reaches a limit of some sort so when I go back to look at them they are gone. Otherwise its a great little browser.
