Rossi has said he won't compete in the Japanese MotoGP, along with Jorge Lorzeno and, possible, Stoner. He's citing some ignorant nonsense about radiation fears (hint: the increased radiation dose you get from flying there will have a larger effect on you).

I think this is utterly shameful behaviour. Doubly so, given the motorbike teams close connection with Japan - teams that Rossi himself raced for in the past. Someone needs to give him a serious slap over this.

I've heard that the teams are using this whole 'radiation fears' excuse to not go to Japan to save a considerable chunk of money.

It sounds far more plausible to me TBH.

The real question should be... is Japan in any state to be hosting major sporting events? Shouldn't they be focusing on getting back on their feet?

Firstly, a lot of Japan wasn't damaged by the Tsunami - it's not like they're trying to host a race in a reconstruction zone. Secondly, the MotoGP brings visitors and money into the area, helping the economy recover. Thirdly, the return to normal running of regular events is an important part of the return to normality.

If Lorenzo and Stoner are locked together in the world championship when Japan comes round you see if they don't go I'll bet you a fair wedge they do! If they were racing it at Chernobyl and one of them decided to go the other one would!

Stoner has already started to change his tune about going and if he goes Lorenzo will, Rossi isn't worried about going as he's riding an absolute dog of a bike this season and won't be winning anything!

Either way he should go as the vast majority of the bikes in the field are from Japanese manufacturers and they should be happy to support a country in need if Dornas independant tests have deemed it safe.

he says he MAY not go(not that he isn't going)
and not that long ago almost all the riders said they wouldn't go.
this article isn't really news

Shameful, but I suspect money has more to do with it than radiation. Al the X-Rays and MRI's these guys have had will have given them more radiation than going to Japan.

If Stoner says he's going then Jorgé will have to go too. Stoner will probably win and to give up 25 points will basically gift the title to Casey.

There is definitely more behind it than slight radiation risk...
As arknor said, they ride a motorbike that could kill them at any second!
