Just got a phone call from the following number 0161 814 0018
about being entitled to £3500 because we were involved in some car accident while back and the insurance company put the money aside under section 4 of some act?! Sounded like loads of tosh so I told the guy to do one but what's the truth behind the section 4 rubbish he was going on about, our last accident was the fault of the other party and everything was settled so why would there be some reserved sum left over that we are entitled? I did ask him to be precise on which accident and to provide details on so called accident to which he replied "your last accident", more questions ensued from me and I guess the guy had an enough as he couldn't answer any with proper correct answers.

Google didn't bring up much on the section 4 thing the number seems to be nuisance caller regurgitating the same rubbish.

Just ambulance chasers trying to get lucky by phoning someone who really did have an accident through which they can help claim compensation and claim a cut for themselves.

"Section 4" stuff just adds colour to their spiel.

They are looking to start a personal injury case for you. Potentially you could earn some compensation and they will be given standard fees of around £1000 just for putting the claim details onto an automated computer system.

Quite a good business considering how little work they have to do. Not sure where they are getting these details from to be honest, as insurers wouldn't release them due to wanting the fees for themselves.

You have 3 years to make a claim after the date of the accident if i recall, been a while since I worked for a Solicitors.

just like PPI claims companys
a couple of years ago a friend of mine said his step mum had just got £3k from a claims company for her CC PPI, she had to give them ~£1k of that money as commission and my mate said he was going to do the same through the same claims company,
i told him to go direct to the CC company and complain there as there was no difference whether he made the claim or one of these dubious companys, he did, he got £3k and didnt have to give any of it away to these sharks,
once the £3k hit his bank account he was thankfull for the info i gave him..
he never even bought me a beer though lol :(

I've had calls like that, when I've responded with 'but I haven't had an accident' they then gave me the date and location of the accident. Figured the insurance company want to make a bit on the side selling accident data to these companies.

Not that they sell all the details as they usually have no idea the accident was my fault and they're not going to get very far asking me to sue myself.

edit: ah, maybe it was just the date being passed on from a comparison site.

Its normally the garages you get your car repaired at I thought? They get paid by shady law firms to pass on your details so they cal follow it up.

Surely the garages would just get cars in and be told to quote/repair them, they won't be given all the details. Certainly not the contact details of the person claiming which won't always be the registered keeper either.

Highly unlikely, given that the garage repairing the cars generally deals with the insurer rather than the owner.

How do you know this?

The main reason for the existence of comparison sites is to harvest personal information. It's mainly for selling on to the companies being quoted, but there's a lucrative side-line in selling it to anyone with a wallet. If you ever use such a site, expect to be spammed within days.

As stated above, application for TPS stops majority of these types of calls. Mine got so bad I had 20ish calls in a day.
