After doing my CBT the other week I decided to buy myself a cheap 125 to commute with and get a bit of experience before I go for my proper test when the weather is a bit better.

I was all set to get a CG125 but I made the mistake of looking at the CBR125R and ended up buying a 2006 model instead. Oops.

(not my actual bike, was too dark to take a pic but it looks exactly the same as this one)

So, fellow OCUKers, can anyone suggest competetively priced insurers for a 34yr old who has only had his CBT for a few weeks. Are there any specialists that offer discounts for old(er) riders with lots of performance car experience or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Having just been through the hurdles with my lad i couldnt better confused . Every dedicated bike insurer was £300 more :/

He is 22 . On his 3rd cbt and was £220 (Yamaha Dt 125)

Me on the other hand at 40 with 4 years no claims is £130 fc on the Tuono 1000 with 4k of mods and agreed value of 8.5k .

So age does come into it but so does NCB . Tbh if it was over £200 FC i would be suprised .

Just try the usual Confused/tesco/bikeinsurer etc and try haggle down the best 3 quotes . Having lots of car driving experience /rospa/etc etc made squat difference to my quotes .

That'll be cheap anyway but definitely try H&R, I found them very cheap on all three of my bikes. Renewals were cheap too, no hassle when I switched bikes and stuff, and are letting me cancel my policy for I think £35 and that's it. I've had very good experiences with them.

I paid £320 TPFT on a new CBF125 a few weeks after my CBT with Swinton. Everyone else wanted £500+, and I'm 26.

Does it depend on how long you've had a full car license?

Just did a quote with a couple of companies

Dial Direct - £87.52 per year. Bargain
HSBC - £4620 per year. :D

Tesco compare has always found me excellent prices, last two policies have been been through chaucer (europa-group) with bikesure and motorcycle direct. Fortunately haven't had to claim but customer service has been fine the times I spoke to them both.

CIA brokers got me the best bike insurance, I actually got it through the dealer when I bought my (new) bike last year, and it was cheaper than any online quote at the time.

Another call for MCE. I had a 2004 CBR125R earlier this year, first bike, days after my CBT I got mine for £270 - I was 35 at the time.
My CBR600F is actually 218.00 so less due to its age I guess.
Found MCE to be helpful, comptitive and there breakdown covers not bad if you dont have it already. In hindsight id pay for their Legal cover at £20 for the year as then they deal with the whole claim if you make one.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. But seeing as its relatively recent and the same topic.

Just trying to insure my new CBF125. Is it really worth going full comp on these?
