motorbike outrider smashes head-on into taxi

So possibly another case of motorbike going fast (albeit not for pure lulz) and driver not looking? Apparently the police had their lights on so visibility should not be an issue. Not clear why he was on the wrong side of the road though. Taking evasive action then the car pulled out?

Very probably, this is a common scenario when car drivers turn right out of a junction without looking for bikes.

The word "minicab" doesn't fill me with confidence about the quality of driving.

30ft is only ten meters. I tripped over a rock waking once and ended up 3 meters away from the rock...

Taxi driver fine, presumably he was only cut free because the door wouldn't open. I question how 'high speed' the collision actually was.

You can pop a door in 5 seconds flat with the hydraulic cutters, if they went through the process of chopping the roof off and lifting him out then it's because they thought his injuries warranted it.

Didn't think you were supposed to remove your helmet after an accident? Must have been going at some speed for the bike to have become embedded in the front of the car like that.

The fact his helmet is off and he was apparently put in the recovery position seems very strange considering he'd been thrown off his bike, I'd be treating that as a suspected neck/spinal injury just to be on the safe side.

I only had a slight off on my bike and no one (off duty nurse, off duty police officer and then 2 other police officers)would let me remove my helmet even though I felt perfectly fine. They made me wait until the paramedics had arrived and given me the all clear before allowing me to stand up, let alone take my helmet off.

I took off my own helmet after my accident, with my left hand because my right arm wouldn't work. :D

I've seen a few of these outriders out in London, they drive extremely aggressively. And the riders are super aggressive towards other motorists. Revving engines, shouting etc. I get why but if security of the royals/PM etc is such an issue why not just take a chopper?

Watch one of royal Jordanians latest YouTube videos. He shows two police bikers getting some serious lean angle in London and almost going into the back of a car lol. He likes to rev himself too :p

Because you can't land a helicopter in the middle of most streets and it's big, obvious target that's easier to hit?

They have pretty big houses. And if their places don't have helipads then they they might consider them. Could also have cars as outriders.

I think a helicopter flying at a couple of hundred feet is harder to hit than a car at maybe 6.

Anyway I'm being devils advocate, don't get your nuts in a twist. ;)

You can land a helicopter in the middle of a street however it's just more disruptive than having outriders and a few Range Rovers escorting :)

Met Police are awful at lighting up their unmarked cars and their bikes. But yeah the SEG riders do like to speed around.

most helicopter rotors are wider than the crap on streets lol. thwyd nail a lampost

Oh sure, you will struggle on some streets but Londons Air Ambulance like to have a good go at it, of course they'll land in a park etc if they can but not always doable.
