I've made the decision that due to medical reasons, I won't be getting back on 2 wheels again. So, to scratch the itch, I'm hoping to build a Hayabusa powered kit car next year. Maybe with a TTS SC bolted on too.

The kit I'm currently fancying is the DAX Rush DE Dion MC. It uses common Sierra/Granada running gear. I rekon I can build a good spec one for around £15k including donor car and bike. I'll flog the rest of the Busa to make some money back.

I'd be interested in any other kit options that folk may have had experience with. Must be motorcycle engined though.

Why must it be bike engined, not a Caterham or something?

I can only assume he wants to continue to experience the high-revving power delivery, and associated noises that only bike engines can deliver.

Personally I'd not be bothered, but I guess for a biker that's had to give up bikes, it almost makes sense.

I always fancied one of those cobras with a Jag V12...... mmmmmmm :)

MNR Vortx RT or the Vortx Super for an ultra light weight car, both of which have dedicated chassis for bike engines rather than a car engined chassis adapted for a bike engine.

Don't forget that with a bike engine you now require a reverse gear to pass the IVA test; either a reverse gearbox or electric reverse.

High revs, sound, sequential gearbox. As a biker, I want these things.

Aye, haven't decided whether to go the reverse gear route or electric reverse yet.

or if you want four wheels, mev atomic:

Ooooh, I like the look of that. Kit is pretty cheap too.

Westfield XI or other Lotus Eleven replica.

Normally they seem to have an A series engine in it, but I've seen some with bike engines in.

If they behave anything like the original Lotus Eleven, then they are not that fast, but are huge fun. Really simple too.

Funky looking thing and from the review I read a bit of a beast. (it was Kit Car September - if you want me to scan it for you email in trust - may take me a day or two to do as I'm rammed with work)

mev owners group is a small but friendly forum - I had a few questions that people were glad to answer. The owner seems very hands on and helpful too.

I remember seeing an MK Indy R at a show a couple years back and I think that had a Busa engine. I know nothing about them but it wasn't mentioned so I thought I'd share :)

Loads of bike engined MKs already around for sensible money, save yourself the time and money and buy one of these, and then put the right engine in it if you feel the need to, which should be a trivial task with a bike engine.

I've been out in a few BEC Westfields :). Busas/Birds/Blades are the common engines - though some people have used Kwaks. The idea of one with a ZZR1400 engine OM NOM NOM . Tim Duncan used to have one with two ZX9R engines :D.

Whilst they are ****ing quick , there are a few drawbacks compared with the usual Ford/VX car engines....
  • How long will the engine last? Whilst a BEC Westfield is only about 450KG, that's a fair bit more than the bike it was designed for.
  • BECs are a real pain for trackday sound-testing (IIRC lots of places do 100dB(A) at 4500RPM for CECs and 105 dB(A) at ¾ maximum revs for BECs).
  • The clutch is done on a pedal, but of-course wasn't designed for that originally, so have fun slipping it in traffic.
  • Oh and of course LOLS NO TORKS WHAT ABOUT HILLLS!!!

I'm not sure that the power delivery of a bike engined car would be too strange to me being a biker. I can understand that for a car driver the thought of 3k rpm to pull away must seem alien.
I'll drive some different configurations and see what I think.

I'm building a MK Indy with an R1 engine atm, picked it up cheap part built, if I was going to build another it would b an MNR, it's a fantastic kit for the money.

I'm lookint at about 7-8k on the road now as I spunked a bit more than planned on an MNR reverse box and light weight gubbins.

** edit**
this is the best source for imformation you will ever need, couldn't have built mine without it.

Do Westfield still do the Megabusa?

Oh yes they still do :D

With the right clutch components you don't need 3k to pull away my car is very docile in traffic.

Rilot if you want to come over to the Surrey area you are welcome to come for a ride/have a drive in mine. I think a supercharger might be going on mine at some point but that will probably be a couple of years away yet. The performance is out of this world and I am still not used to it.

Current mods just completed are a custom exhaust and a Flatshifter Expert.

Email in trust if you want to arrange something
