Should be picking up my new bike next Monday, so started thinking about security. Current bike is a Fazer which I've never cared enough about to worry about.

Think more of ground anchor & decent chain, as my garage won't be the hardest thing to get into.

What do you guys use?

Chain and ground anchor, unfaired bandit 650s aren't as desirable as some bikes so I doubt i'll be as useful as others. What bike you getting?

I went from a fazer 600 to a gsxr 750, thankfully the parents now let me keep it in the garage as it's worth 3 and a half times the fazer, so no ground anchors needed for me! :D (well I hope not)

what bike are you picking up?

Mine's garaged, but that won't stop thieves if they really want it.

I've read stories of them removing garage roofs before!

The bike's an 05 Aprilia Falco

Anyone use a tracker?

Also thinking of some form of security marking.

i just have the alarm / imobiliser and thats all... figure if some scroat is gonna nick it they will find a way anyway. plus it's insured and I'd buy a new bike :)

btw, your new bike looks stunning, bet it sounds evil ?

you gonna get it in time for bike meet ?

edit: just needs some kinda tail tidy on there

This,

The harley has an immobiliser and alarm, I also whack a decent padlock on it as well just to add a visible deterrent, also its in the terms of my insurance that when parked at place of residence it must have an approved physical security device

Alarm/immoboliser and in the garage with car parked in front overnight, and there is always someone at the house and if there isnt that means the bikes are being used :p

a cheap anchor would be to buy a large plant pot, make some cement and pour it in with a D lock hanging out at the top, then just chain ya bike to it. saves drilling into ground and it be heavy as hell to move!

best form of security for a bike is defo anchoring it down, forget ya alarms and immobilsers, if the thieves move ya bike into a van then say good bye to it - unless you got a tracker :)

The guy I'm buying it from works for the AA. He says he's never bother fitting an alarm or imobiliser, as he attends to loads of bikes where alarms have caused flat batteries or stopped the bike working at all. I've only ever had one bike that was alarmed (an RGV250), and it did flatten my battery a few times....one half way home from Donnington!

I will still look into it though.

My garage is locked, but the doors wouldn't take a lot to get through. Definately want to get a decent ground anchor and chain/padlock. also security marking if it puts thieves off?

But like you say, if it's insured.

The bikes top whack (£3k), but it has everything I've been looking for in a Falco:

The last year/colour scheme i like ;)
Only 3,500 miles
12 months MOT
11 months tax
FSH
Titanium Quill Tri-Oval cans/link pipes (and original)
Power Commander
K&N air filter
Double bubble screen
Ohline steering damper
Hagon adjustable shock
Braided hoses all round
And even a ScottOiler :p

He's even had the side stand modified (at a cost of £50) so that it's not so precarious.

I seriously think I'd struggle to find another in this condition & with over £1500 of mods.

And yes it will be VERY loud without the baffles, but with them in they are road legal & stamped as so ;)

Collecting next Monday....when's the meet?

Sounds awesome mate!

Got a Bandit 600 my self, loving it!

Nothing at the moment, most I've ever done with a bike, no matter what it was, was lock the door of the shed/garage it was in.

I'm lucky as I don't have to live in a demilitarized zone so stuff tends not to go walkies.

a chain around the wheel is much more efective than ANY alarm as bikes can be picked up and put in a soundproofed vehicle in second! i'd advise making access to it difficult then you will put 99% off!!

I don't bother at all, beyond putting the bike in the shed and locking the steering. If someone wants to steal it, they can take it - rather that than coming into my home looking for keys with weapons. No thanks.

Isn't this what we pay insurance for?

Great my current insurer wants to know if the listed mods give any performance increase (which is understandable).

The guy has never had the bike Dyno'd so I wouldn't have a clue of any gains. He listed power as 118bhp in the advert.

The thing I love is, if I ever had a claim they would only replace the bits with standard replacements. How does that work? lol

The exhausts are actually road legal (with the baffles in ;) ), and the bikes never been set-up on a dyno, so I might say no...

The guy said he only put a K&N filter in as they are washable so you don't have to replace every time it's serviced. The Powercommander has just ironed out the air/fuel mixture.

Performance increase...yay or nay??

Insurance companies, gotta love em

No I mean take the nice stuff of if you have an accident as ive heard of them taking the bike and giving it back with the bling removed before :o lol
I tell them all the stuff I have but none of them are really a performance increase, as the way I see it even with end can, filter and PC3 you cant get the bhp figures the manufacturer states ;) so in theory my bike is underpowered as far as they are concerned :p I know they dont state rear wheel bhp but most of them dont know that :p

I called them back and got a different person, she didn't seem to know about my previous conversation which is good.

Just told her it had some after market exhausts, and that they were road legal.

Seeing that I only have just over 4 months remaining, I was surpised but the increase if I changed to fully comp (from TPF&T). Including their £33 fee to change a policy, TPF&T will be an extra £88....Comp was an extra £287!

If I start a new policy it was only cost me £120 TPF&T or £180 Comp for 12 months lol

FWIW road legality apparently has nothing to do with the bike insurance. just the MOT(has to be legal on the day it was MOTed) and police i'd have thought. If you do have a mod tell them to cover yourself but if it's an official part then i 'gather' its ok. you'll have to tell them about the power commander but not sure about the k&n as they are replacement filters which arent designed to be performance increasers but they can be.

don't ask me how i know that.:o

i rung my insurer after a thread about this other day, they said I had to list the changes to bike.

have a whole bunch of things but only told them about power commander and pipes (with baffle in ;)), they said they were on approved list of mods.

i've never heard of any claim becoming void because of pipes / PC etc.... i think they dont really mind unless some part you added failed and caused the accident.

if i was caught in accident with no baffles, i'd say they must have 'fallen out' during accident
