Ok this is a long shot but does anyone have the 3.1 beta patch for this ancient game which fixed the HUD problem on modern graphics cards?

Can't find it anywhere and the Digital Illusions website is gone (yes it was they of Battlefield fame).

Email in trust.

Is this the futuristic racing game that also came out on ps1?

I've got good memories of that game, I got it for half price when it first came out :D Pretty gutted that I actualy went and sold it to be honest :(

It was indeed although I played it on PC.

There was a small but dedicated online following for this game back in '98 & '99 and we used to own at it. Together with a couple of guys called Merc & Drunk_Driver we formed team DMV (our nick initials) and thrashed everyone :) Drunk_Driver even got some of his demos included with the 3.0 patch for the game.

We also had some epic battles trying to set the fastest time for 10 laps of Neocity in the Avalanche car. Very good times :)

Basically I just found some of my old demos and so reinstalled the game to have a look which is why I was after the patch.

I remember playing this game on network mode on the pc :) the graphics were amazing for its time.

I seem to remember the light trails etc on the pc version, was amazing

One of the best racing games ever made in my opinion. It really was great and looked astounding back in the day.

Indeed, looking at it again now, the graphics certainly don't look 7 years old!

The soundtrack, by Olof Gustafsson, was superb. I could listen to the Neocity and Olympos tracks as standalone pieces of music in their own rights.

I think this game was the main reason for getting a 3dfx :)

Need to see the pc screenshots tho, the playstation one's dont do it justice.

LOL, didn't realise it was abandonware now.

If anyone feels like downloading it for a play, you'll need the 3.0 patch and also the fix for the HUD which sometimes doesn't appear on modern cards (i.e. no on-screen text or menus when in-game). I can send these if anyone needs them.

You're also welcome to the demo of my ultimate 9m12s 10-lapper of Neocity in the Avalanche which, as far as I know, was never beaten :D

I've still got this game installed as it's only around 80meg or so, I've ported it over when I've done upgrades. I sometimes use it for benchmarking purposes with everything on max 8xS AA 16xAF. I've only got the 3.0 patch so would be interested in this beta update.

Used to play it a lot when i was at uni (1998-2001) as my housemate liked it a lot. He used the mouse to drive and was actually pretty good with it! Analog steering helps in this game as turning too sharply causes you to lose speed. I had got kinda stuck on the singleplayer but after a lot of practice in network races I improved enough to complete the game and started wondering what I'd found so hard...

As mentioned, the soundtrack is pretty good.

As for whether it really is abandonware, I'm not convinced. DI are still going strong.

I doubt it's freeware at any rate. Vertigo1, I wouldn't mind getting the patch, hud fix and your ultimate 9m12s 10-lapper of Neocity in the Avalanche demo :)
