Hey guys,

I have found myself reading up quite a bit about cars lately. And one thing that I keep reading about is the unreliability of French cars, more commonly Clio's and 206's.

Now I was wondering if someone could explain to me why say, My 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 would be more reliable than a similar small engined Clio or Corsa.

I was also wondering where the love towards Fiestas on this board came from, but I guess that is directly linked to the above question?

Thank you
Ben

I think the unreliabilty of French cars stems partially from the fact that competition in their home market is very limited, French people generally buy French cars, also the French government has provided a lot of support and protection to a lot of their own industries, the French economy and particularly industry is likely to suffer before to long as the realities of the modern world catches up with them

Well that and the fact that the French are a bunch of smelly, slacking surrender monkeys :p

French engineering is far from the best in the world. Plus the cars are generally produced quite cheaply to fall in line with french demand.

Not always unreliable though, when I was learning my instructor had a diesel 206 on 250k odd miles, it was falling to bits and was awful to drive but I was amazed it was still going.
