Hey all,

Random idea time. Should we have a sticky with all our best motoring related apps for our smart phones? I think we could all benefit or enjoy some cool motoring apps?

I found the Shell Fuel app today on the Android Market, and apparently it's available on the iPhone too :) You can tell it to show you Shell stations in your area with fuels of your choice, e.g. V-Power Petrol/Diesel, LPG etc - quite handy for us V-Power only users I thought..

Anyone else got any decent motoring apps?

I use torque on android it lets you connect your phone to a Bluetooth obd reader to see different info and it can also be used to read and reset codes.

iPhone Apps:

  • The BMW one - Lock/Unlock doors, send destination location to car from Google Maps (just replicates the BMW Connected Drive website functionality but on a nice iPhone interface)
  • AA - Use it to ring the AA with your location, and store your membership details in it
  • Dynolicious - Was ££££, Can't say I use it much
  • CamerAlert - Speed Camera warnings using the PocketGPSWorld database . Neat thing is you can have it set to not display a map and have the screen locked/app minimized and it'll still verbally warn you of cameras (far kinder on the battery!)
  • Speed & SpeedBox - GPS Speedo.

Always stick this app on before setting out on a journey to a new place, good app :)

Ok so while it's not an app.... I bought this back in the summer for my iPhone. Charger and mount with various positions. Works well, especially as I have very little places to put the phone outside of my pockets where it doesn't fly out and hit something.

It also allows me to slide it up and record video relatively well too. (Wind noise due to roof down and windows too...bit of a draft! - filmed last summer with stock exhaust as a test with squeaky new brakes all within the speed limits)

Youtube destroys the quality somewhat, but has 480p option. The car is a tad louder with the new exhaust and deeper

So for £20ish, got me a charger, mount and I can film basic videos :)

I use Tyresafe quite a lot.

Put a registration in and it tells you what size tyres you need and what pressures they should be at :)

Just downloaded and tried this. Came up with the correct car for me (Black Golf GTi) and the correct tyre size )225/40/18. But then the wrong pressures lol

Front: 2.0 Bar (VW recommends 2.4)
Rear: 2.0 Bar (VW recommends 2.4)
