so when i was 19 i bought a nissan micra, worked great and has lasted me a long time, but after going on holiday and driving a juke i decided maybe i should look into upgrading.

i cannot for the life of me think of another car though that I like other then merc a class, which seem to sell for a shockingly low cost. perhaps this is because they're rubbish i don't know so turning to you guys for opinions.

i'm hoping to get near £1k for the micra, perhaps ambitious but it's still in great condition and good milage, and would be able to put £3k into a purchase of another car, though ideally i'd only want to put £1.5k in.

i know they aren't the zoomiest of cars but for me they tick the boxes of what i'm looking for, which are.

automatic, tallish as i don't like to step down into a car or up out of it, flash enough for work when doing quotes as the micra just isn't cutting it tbh.

if not the a class, any other suggestions of cars i may like that will be in my price range, preferably £2.5.k but can get to £4k

cmax way too big car for me, too long and would be a waste as i often drive with only 2 people and i don't really need a big boot.

i like the suzuki samurai and ones like that but cost seems a lot and they're rare

thoughts on nissan note?

Isn't a samurai a Jimmy? There are thousands of them around and cost about 2p

Samurai is the old SJ shaped one, Jimny is more like a mini Vitara.

OP, just getting rid of our A160 this week after about 7 months of ownership. They aren't "bad" cars, they're just not as good as they could be. Nice to drive around town and they cruise on a run nicely enough too.

Poor to drive, bad build quality, always going wrong, used to fall over in corners.

Which A Class are we talking about here? If it's the original A Class you are correct.

If it's the W169....

My A180 is now 6 years old and has done nearly 80,000 miles. Reliability has been faultless. Has never broken down or failed to start. Has never 'fallen over' or ever felt like it was going to. Loads of space. Very comfortable. Performance just as good as any other turbo-diesel. Has given an average of 46 MPG over the last 70,000 miles.

He has around 2.5k to spend upto a 4k max, so I was talking about the original a class.

They are very decent cars and you can get some very well equipped ones for not a lot of money.

As with everything its all about what you pay and what you want in a car.

Audi A2
Vauxhall Meriva
Renault Modus

Don't go anywhere near the original A class, I seem to remember some motoring groups pushing for recalls etc (though I may be remembering incorrectly)

Tbh if you like the kinda odd, tall looking but small cars you dont have masses of options.

The panda is probably the best all rounder fie your budget, I personally hate the A class but its nothing to do with how it drives (which is just like every other boggo small engined hatchback really) I just cannot stand the things.

You could look at the fusion, meriva, note, that tall daihatsu thing, honda jazz, e46 compact (but you dont like it which is fair enough) if you really want that type of car
