Gutted JB won't be racing next year, Perez looks locked into Force India, I can't find it now but this morning I read something about so up and coming racer (from F3?) will take Massa's seat at Williams.

Alonso has come out in support of Max, after Spa, saying that he is not aware of Max breaking any current overtaking rules with his late defending against Kimi along Kemmel straight. No "significant part" of the Kimi's car was alongside when he changed lines and it was before the braking zone, it just looked very dramatic because of the DRS zone. Apparently Kimi only gave Max a place back at Bus Stop on the lap before this incident, from Kimi gaining a place unfairly at Les Combes the lap before.

Even with JB's level of fitness (given his love of triathlons) I cant see him making it back after a year out, and it would be seen as a backward step by McLaren also.

He will be an ambassador for McLaren for two seasons and then go out quietly, which is gutting.

If he negotiates with McLaren that he doesn't attend the GPs nearest Le Mans then he'll surely find himself a team to have a go with.

That would be really cool

I can also see Button attending a few GPs next year and when he isn't needed doing some commentating with Sky.

Im not sure that would work out well for either, given that he will be paid by McLaren for the season, so how could he be un-biased on Sky (and if need be critical of McLaren)

It should be an interesting and varied year for Button next year. DC managed to still commentate despite being paid by RBR.

The two year contract seems to be insurance should Alonso decide to walk at the end of (or even during 2017). I think it is entirely possible Alonso will not see out the 2017 season if the car is as uncompetitive as it is this year - what's the point if he sees that as his own last year in F1?

I think it is also some insurance for a number of those sponsors and to maintain the uneasy peace in the McLaren boardroom, where there seems to be a lot of love for Button.

Purely selfishly I wish he'd gone to Williams. The car might be fast becoming a dog but I really wanted that Martini branded gear with Button's name on it!

Just a passing moment to post about. I've just arrived at a pub in Bucks and took a photo of this bloke at the bar. I asked him if he was part of the team but he said he bought it when he went to Silverstone.

True - was thinking it was different circumstances, but I guess it really wasnt.

Seem to recall him being rather good at it
Yeah I thought he was too. It was ITV with James Allen and Martin Brundle wasn't it?

I also remember that Paul di Resta is the reserve driver for Williams and he's on Sky as some kind of pundit at the moment isn't he?

I think that any fears that a pundit with links to a team such as DC, di Resta and, potentially Button, might either hesitate to criticise them or over-exaggerate any praise would be mitigated by having a recent GP driver and their knowledge/experience of the cars/tracks/drivers.
