What I'd really like is for Daddy Stroll to have a grown up chat with his son and give that seat to Max next year, presuming Alonso wants another season chasing his third F1 title.

Even if the '26 regs Newey design turns out to be a lame duck, we would get to see who can get the best out of it for a season or two.

Like i have said before, i reckon Max will go to AM....

Max and Alonso? That's a recipe for distaster if ever I heard one...

99% sure they'll ditch Alonso if they can get Max.

Why wouldn't they ditch Alonso though? EDIT: As above Alonso and Max haha that would be hilarious :D

It'd be funny if Jos/Max throw their toys out of the pram towards the end of the season and it turns out there's nowhere competitive to go to. I honestly can't see McLaren, Mercedes or Ferrari ditching either of their drivers. Mercedes specifically are looking like a properly good pairing. Mr Consistent along with Antonelli who hasn't put a foot wrong so far this season (unless I've forgotten something) and only seems to be getting faster. Toto must be very happy with that choice in particular.

Only if Max wants a massive payday and to never win another championship, and he doesn't strike me as being that type of guy. AM obviously has Newey now, and has spent megabucks recruiting engineering staff, and have their new wind tunnel, but this all has echoes of Toyota in the early 2000's and Audi now. Spending a ton of money for top tier talent who never gel with each other has a proven record of disappointment.

As I've said already in this thread, I'm tend to the same view as you - I think Papa Stroll's big money team is more likely to lead to success than failure - but I think it's a mistake to believe that its chances are non-existent. There's a lot of top talent at that team and Newey's influence from next year may be enough to bring things round, not to mention the new engine. I think they've more chance of success in 2026/7 than Red Bull have; they might even end up being the best available option.

There's a reported €1bn offer over five years on the table for Max. If you're not sure what the best chance is, wouldn't you consider picking the one offering crazy money?

Max has always said he's not fussed for chasing records. I think he'll see what '26 is like, but if it doesn't go his way I can see him retiring. Especially with a little one. He's also getting into the ownership side and has expressed an interest in other series.

It is time for Alonso to open up his seat. He's not doing anything at all at AM right now and he has fewer points than Lance. It's a long season of course and that will probably change. I can see him getting pushed out for a younger big name and AM being competitive next year though, becasue that's how his team changes go go for Alonso.

Max will race in other series; he’s said he wants to and aligns a bit with sim racing. He’ll do well there too where it’s more about driver talent than car and it’ll be something different.

Could see him going to AM if they have a competitive car or can convince him that it’ll be competitive in a year or 2, otherwise I don’t think he’s one to bother with midfield racing. Stroll wouldn’t pay what Max is worth anyway unless the car is good.

The car is a PoS, what can he do? Do you honestly think the season will finish with Stroll outscoring Alonso?
It's clear Alonso is hanging around for the car to get good, he's far more useful to the team than the plank in the other car!

Alonso 2026 WDC confirmed.

I think it's not implausible. Age catches up with everyone eventually.
Not implausible but as above, Alonso is 100 times more useful than Stroll Jnr if you're on your way to designing a competitive car. His experience would be well worth keeping around. Then again, he could be a reserve driver and do lots of testing, but I'm assuming there's limitations around that and how much he can do compared to going out and driving it in anger every weekend. If AM really want to win a WDC, it's almost like they should be offering Alonso a big payday to keep him around.

I find it amusing that Max and his manager along with Marko and probably a few others still think shouting and lies will fix anything.
Even after all these years with Newey. Maybe they are finally getting taught a lesson.
I doubt they’ll actually learn anything though, they don’t seem capable of building anything just jumping on what someone else has built.

Max may never see the past 4 years again, he has a small chance if he goes to Merc, AM I would say are still a few years away from running at the front.

That said Merc would be mad to get rid of Russell or Antonelli.

With the current limits on testing, reserve drivers are simulator jockeys, I don't see Alonso wanting much part of that. Whilst Alonso is more valuable than Stroll for car development, I don't recall him being particularly noted as a great driver on that front and his history of failing to improve the teams he joins doesn't speak to it.

AM really want to win a WDC for Lance Stroll, that's the bottom line here.

Never going to happen .. unless Papa stroll can buy all the other teams to ensure they have rubbish drivers and cars.. Don't get me wrong, anyone that can put an F1 car around in the speed Lance does has some talent, but it's no where near good enough for a WDC let alone regular race wins.. even if he drove the "best" car..

I don't disagree, but that's the idea that Papa Stroll is building that entire team around. A trophy for Aston without it being in his son's hands is a sorry second best.

Yeah good point. I just meant Alonso's experience would be better than Stroll's in building a car. But yeah Alonso doesnt actually have great experience/history there does he :D

I mean, really it's all they know right. It's gotten them this far. That's why it'd be so funny if they burn bridges at RB and find out there's nowhere to go.
