I know they have to provide picnic areas, but the facilities that they have inside, tables chairs etc, are you allowed to take you own food there and eat it??

I would have thought they would get a bit bitchy with you. I had a problem with a coffee place when I took something in there to eat. They said I had to buy something, so I bought a coffee and poured it into the nearest plant and sat back down with my empty mug and ate my sarnie

You prat and a half! What kind of person would want to have an indoor picnic at a motorway service station? They are for taking a johnny cash, getting some petrol when desperate, and nothing else!

i imagine he's driving somewhere using motorways, and wants to stop at some point for a rest stretch his legs and eat his sandwich somewhere other than in his car. in which case, a motorway service station is significantly more conveniant than driving down some random a road hoping for somewhere to stop.

in all honesty, i don't know. i imagine it depends on the type of seating in the service station. some have a general seating area, and some have seating areas for specific parts. at least, that's how i remember it. worst that will happen is they ask you not to eat there, and you do as suggested... buy something cheap from their shop like a bottle of coke or something.

Bottle of coke = £3 :p

anyway reason is that I am driving down south tomorrow along the m1, I used to live in Rugby and used to go to one of the best chippys in the uk (browsover fish bar) now I want to stopover (yes its that good!) but its takeaway only and I cant think of anywhere else to sit and eat it apart from car/motorway services.
