What are they like?

Do they have a single player story or is it just multiplayer?

Is it complex or easy enough you can just grab a weapon and go nuts on ppl without too much thinking or planning?

Just i fancied this game awhile ago but didnt get it for price and wasnt sure if it was any good solo. But with steam sales today for em i was wondering about getting one of em. I presume latest is best?

I have a friend that plays, he loves warband, A lot of people say that's the best in the series, apparently the newest isn't too great, I tried playing it but the graphics are dated and I had lots of issues with missing textures so I just gave up before I really got anywhere in it,

It has a lot of fans but I really couldn't see the appeal

I played the tutorial and combat seemed unnecessarily hard, maybe you should look at a couple of youtube videos before buying

There is an extensive singleplayer mode where you go around recruiting armies and fighting, and there is a quick battle mode where you are instantly on the field fighting.

Well worth it's current price on steam deal.

The single player is extensive and the game has tons of mods around for it. I would recommend Warband over Fire and Sword. Not that I have played Fire and Sword but apparently the guns really ruin the game, and if you want guns in Warband there are mods around that can add them.

The multiplayer can be very fun too with some epic battles, but can also be very frustrating.

Just get Warband to start with. If you like it then you can pick up the others at a later date.

Warband is just an updated version of the original. You only need the orginAl to play a few mods.

Warband has an excellent single player - I chalked up over 200hrs on single player alone! It has a slightly steep learning curve to get used to the weapon techniques but once you do it is amazing. No other game comes close to this for simulating combat in a very satisfying way. E.g running down peasants with a lance or duelling with swords.

I like fire and sword for it's change of pace, but I wouldn't reccomend it to a newcomer - it has a much harder learning curve. You will just get 1 shot killed in combat a lot.

Thought I'd necro this as I'm playing Warband again. How many people tried staying independent for as long as possible before starting your own Kingdom? I tried this and it was insanely difficult to hold on to my Fiefs so I restarted.

First time I tried playing I joined Swadia but got irritated that I was doing all the capturing for someone else, hence why I'm trying to avoid being a Vassal.

Any tips would be appreciated - I have a party of about 75 now, lots of Swadian Sergeants, Swadian Knights, Sarranid Mamlukes and Swadian Sharpshooters and we can take down other parties of ~90 without too many worries now. :)

I'm sending out my heroes as much as possible to spread the word of my awesomeness but I don't see how I see what my "right to reign" value is...

Cheers!

I started playing Warband a couple of weeks ago, been addicted ever since.

Edit: Sorry, had to go to work early, was going to post more.

Fill your party with nothing but Swadian Knights, and you'll never lose. I'm serious, I go up against warbands of 400+ enemies (3-4 lords) with a party of 80 Swadian Knights (plus me and my elite guys) and not only do I win, but very few of my party actually die (although high Surgery skill might be a factor there.) It's expensive, but if you have a profitable productive enterprise in every major city you'll more than cover their wages. Tip: Have a dyeworks in Rivacheg, you'll get over 1000 denars back every week from that alone.

All you need to know about the "right to rule" value: http://mountandblade.wikia.com/wiki/Right_to_rule
